The Election Commission has banned the Congress’s “Chowkidar Chor hai” ad campaign. The order has come from Madhya Pradesh but it will be applicable to all the states in India. The Election Commission said, “If one state has banned it then it will not be shown in other states also”. In a letter by the joint Chief Electoral officer Rajesh Kaul said that the Congress has to immediately remove the campaign ad across the countries. The ad is also supposed to be immediately stopped if it is being broadcasted anywhere in the country.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has used the slogan to accuse the Prime Minster of swindling funds in the Rafale deal. He has attacked Narendra Modi with allegations of carrying out crony capitalism through the deals signed by the Central Government. The allegations also include the point that the NDA government chose an overpriced deal. The Congress Party claims that the reason behind accepting an overpriced deal for 36 Rafale jet planes is to support the rookie defence firm of Anil Ambani’s. The deal according to the Congress Party would help the Ambani group bag an offset contract with the Rafale manufacturer Dassault.
The BJP party came in support of their leader Narendra Modi and objected to the campaign ad. They said that it is a personal attack on the BJP Party leader. It is insulting the country’s Prime Minister. Narendra Modi refers himself as the anti-corruption “Chowkidar” (Security Guard) at the election rallies.
While Congress is now blaming the Election Commission Chief Electoral officer of MP, VL Kanth Rao of coming under the pressure of BJP and the PM for banning the campaign, BJP party members have labelled the slogan as malicious and tainting the image of Prime Minister Modi. It is indeed disgraceful of the Congress Party to use such slogans and defy the spirit of fair and clean play in the elections.
Congress in its defence has said that they did not mean to target Modi with their word “chor” used in the campaign slogan; however it is clear that the claim is incorrect and Congress is lying about its intentions. It’s evident that Congress addresses Narendra Modi as “chor” as the Prime Minister calls himself as “Chowkidaar” in his rallies. Congress party is incapable of fighting a clean election. It has stooped low to use derogatory terms for BJP leaders to win elections. The party though will never succeed as these gimmicks do not influence the minds of the voters.
