According to recent media reports, voters of Delhi were getting phone calls from the CM Kejriwal’s office assuring them that the Kejriwal government has restored the names in the voter list, which were earlier taken off. This was aimed to instill fear among the voters and to create panic, prior to the Lok Sabha election.
After these reports surfaced, the Election Commission, yesterday, asked the Delhi Police to take ‘necessary action’ against those making ‘misleading’ phone calls to people about the electoral rolls. Manoj Kumar, Election Officer (ER), in his complaint to the Police Commissioner of Delhi, stated, “Various written complaints received in this regard are being enclosed herewith. Prima facie, it appears that the matter needs to be thoroughly investigated in order that the factual correctness of the averments made in the aforementioned complaints are ascertained and necessary action under relevant extant laws is taken.”
Further, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari demanded cancellation of recognition of the AAP. He alleged that AAP volunteers are calling national capital voters and telling them that their names have been deleted from the voters’ list and the party convener, Arvind Kejriwal is getting them added again. In his tweet, Tiwari wrote, “Serious offence by a political party, who does not respect the constitution of India recognition of Aam Aadmi Party should be cancelled for misleading citizens and trying to create unrest in the society Delhi Police must register Multiple FIRs and culprits should be penalized.”

On the same note, BJP MP Vijay Goyal also urged the Delhi CM to resign from his post and requested Commissioner of Police, Delhi to wrap up the investigation as soon as possible. This fear mongering revealed how desperate AAP has become. They know that their public support is at an all-time low and hence resorted to such despicable and desperate attempt.

However, hours after the complaint filed by Manoj Kumar, Delhi CM Kejriwal accused the Election Commission of being converted into an office of the saffron party. In his tweet, Kejriwal wrote, “Ur ECs shud resign for converting EC into BJP office. Shameful Modi Ji has subverted every institution. We will not allow BJP to succeed in its conspiracies.”

पुलिस आपकी, EC आपका – उनसे इस तरह ग़लत और गंदे काम मत करवाइए। ये देश किसी एक व्यक्ति और पार्टी से बहुत बड़ा है https://t.co/dPfc3iKhZv

Earlier, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer had cautioned people about these suspicious phone calls. The officer had made it clear that only the electoral registration officer can add or remove names from the rolls. However, it seems the move has completely failed and now the Election Commission is after the Aam Aadmi Party.
Lately, in a desperate attempt, the incumbent Delhi CM got his term extended as the National Convener of the party. Later, the party brought an amendment in its constitution to remove the limit of two terms for being an office bearer. After the amendment, Kejriwal can continue as the party chief for unlimited terms. Aam Aadmi Party is on a path of doom ever since its big victory in Delhi. The entire state unit is marred with heavy infighting. AAP is on the verge of extinction in the state and it might not be an exaggeration to say that very soon AAP will recede into oblivion.
