After the initial counting of votes for 679 assembly seats in the five states, nothing is clear except that TRS has maintained a huge lead in Telangana. According to latest trends, TRS is leading on 82 seats, and the joint opposition alliance Prajakutami – comprising the Telugu Desam Party, the Congress, the Telangana Jana Samithi and the CPI is leading on 25 seats. The BJP which is contesting on its own is leading on five seats. Majority mark in 119 member Telangana legislative assembly is 60. Overall, the KCR is heading towards landslide victory with around 50 percent vote share.
The TRS chief, KCR, is leading from his Gajewal constituency, and the care taker CM of the state KT Rama Rao is also leading from his Sircilla constituency. TheTelangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP, K Kavitha said, “We believe people of Telangana are with us. We have sincerely worked and utilised the opportunity given to us. So I believe voters will bring us back to power, and that too independently. We are very confident about it.”
On eight Bellwether seats of the state, the TRS is leading on six of them. The TRS is leading on Andole, Jangaon, Shadnagar, Warangal East, Bodhan, and Narsapur. The Prajakutami is leading on Suryapet, and Manthani.
Major takeaway from the initial trends of Telangana state assembly elections results is that the experiment of Mahagathbandhan has suffered an abject failure. It has failed to leave any significant impact. This is a huge setback for the proponents of opposition unity. Naidu’s experiment has failed badly. This failure will have its reverberations on the national level politics as well. The Prajakutami has clearly failed to wrest power from the TRS, now this failure will question Congress’ and Naidu’s efforts to form a grand anti-BJP alliance or the Mahagathbandhan for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
As far as initial trends are concerned, the picture is still not clear. The Congress is leading in Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a tight contest. In 40 member Mizoram legislative assembly, the MNF is leading on 22 seats. It seems that Northeast is on the verge of becoming Congress Mukt.
